Its the June holidays and I know many of you are looking forward to having loads of fun and catch up with friends etc. Me too!!

But please do not forget to set aside some time to revise and do your holiday assignments or revise and practice and work on areas you know you are weak in.

For English there is homework too!!

Sec 2 Express

3) 1 book review.

1) Copy 5 model compositions onto your model compo exercise books. Please try to copy descriptive and narrative stories.

Dear students of 25, I hope that you guys have been enjoying English lessons thus far, and also remembering all that you have learnt, and, putting them into good use!

It maybe hard for some of you scatterbrains to remember all the posts you are supposed to post on your blog so here is a list:

1) A self-introduction, tellin us about yourself and also what you have learnt in English period thus far.

2) Personal favourite song review. Do an individual write-up about your personal favourite song. It must contain at least 150 words describing the song and how did it affect you.

3) Search for an online song review of Lily Allen's 'The Fear' and post it onto your blog. Please remember to include the site where you got the review from.

4) 2nd personal song review: Beyonce's 'If I were a boy'. Write 200-250 words about what do you think of the song. You may also describe the lyrics and the music video, remember to include the video if you are going to describe it, so that I'll know which video you are referring to.

Music Review Structure and Content

Introduction, Background

Give title and name of singer. If you're reviewing a music video, you may want to mention the storyline of the video and the setting, costumes etc, and just how effective is it.

Plot/Song rhyme and rhythm.

Summarize the content of the song lyric in a few sentences. Say something about place and time of the song release, about the rhyme and melody of the song and about the singer's style of singing.

 Comment

Let others know whether or not you liked the song/music video and give reasons for your liking / not liking it. Is the singer’s style good or bad, is the song / video interesting or boring etc..

Your very first activity

Hello dear fellows, I hope that by now, most of you would have already set up your individual blogs, and is claiming ownership of it by designing it to your heart's content. There are a few things I'll need you to do before the first official activity is going to be posted! :P

1) Please ensure that for all of you do not post comments on any of your friend's English class blogsites. I know that I have already told you guys before, and please do bear with me if I am coming across as too naggy, but this is of the utmost importance! The blogs that you have created, and which I have the addresses to, are for class use, and grades will be given. If you really have something to say or discuss, please create a tag board. If anyone of you post negative comments about anyone of your friends or classmates, I'll have to make all of you privatise your blogs, so that only I can access it, and I'm sure none of you would like that!

Some possible sites for tagboard guides are: cbox, tag-board...

2) Please do up your first posts, before your next computer lab session, so that I know that you guys have not been sleeping in my class! *>_<*

What do I want to see in your first post: Brief introduction of yourself, and also what you think you have learnt thus far from the 2 weeks of English lessons. Please ensure that your post is in standard English, no internet speak please!

BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE

Before we start on the topics per se, I want to repeat the importance of cyber-wellness once again. I cannot stress just how important this is especially in this modern times with the internet and technology playing such a big role in our everyday lives.

Key points to take note of.

1)Any form of Cyber-bullying will not be tolerated on this site or any student's site. We are all civilised educated individuals and we should be able to handle differences in opinion in a civilised manner. Flaming, use of vulgarities in any form, harrasment, cyber-stalking,impersonation and exclusion are all forms of cyber-bullying.

*One word of advice: Never respond in anger, this is one main catalyst that can and have sparked off many cases of cyber-bullying. Always remember to keep a level head and reflect upon yourself before responding or accusing someone else.

2)Copyright laws is in place for a reason and no one should infringe these laws for any reasons whatsoever.
Easy accessibility to videos, articles and images on the internet does not equate to flagrant flouting of copyright laws. Please remember to go to the original source and seek permission from the original owners if possible, or if there is difficulty, note down the website for reference in the works cited section of your article. Also remember to check the website's terms and condition. (now is the best time to train your fine-print reading skills)

3) Plagiarism is not to be tolerated as well. Copying large chunks of information and then presenting it as your own is both lazy and very much against work ethics. Always remember to give credit wherever credit is due by referencing the sites.

4) Dangers of Cyber contacts is something that I am sure all of you would be aware of. Although the mini-research is going to be web-based, and the uploading will be on the blogs itself, try not to reveal too much information about yourself on your blogs. Information such as contact numbers, live-in address, identification numbers or personal passwords etc are not necessary in your blog posts and shoould not be made public. Although blogs is supposed to be private and almost journal like in many cases, always keep in mind that nothing online is ever private and confidential. There have been more than enough cases of cyber-crimes that has spilled over to real life for me to not have to reiterate again the dangers that the cyberworld can contain.

5) Last but not least, always remember that although the internet is exciting and full of new ideas and information, it is and should not be your everything. Don't face your PC 24hours a day!
